Why I Wrote Journey Through Locs
Nearly one year ago, I held the first copy of my book in my hands.
And for more than a decade, I’ve shared what I’ve learned about hair care online. The importance of understanding your hair and scalp, questioning what we've been taught, and embracing a "less is more" approach to caring for our crowns.
But writing a book was different.
Unlike a blog post, workshop, or YouTube video, a book required me to slow down and put everything I had learned into one place. Not just the lessons about hair care, but the lessons about identity, confidence, self-acceptance, and trusting yourself when your choices don't look like everyone else's.
I wrote Journey Through Locs because I remembered what it felt like to be overwhelmed by conflicting advice, unsure of who to trust, and searching for answers that actually made sense.
My hope was simple: create something you could return to again and again whenever you needed guidance, reassurance, or a reminder to trust your own journey.
What surprised me most wasn't self-publishing the book.
It was hearing from readers who saw themselves in its pages. People who finally felt understood.
People who realized they weren't the only ones navigating criticism, confusion, or self-doubt as they embraced their natural hair or began their loc journey.
Looking back, I realize this book was never really just about hair. It was about learning to trust the process.
And as its first anniversary approaches, I've been reflecting on everything that journey taught me. So, whether you've been with me for years or recently joined the community, THANK YOU for being part of this journey. Your support made this book possible!
